One Midwest music enthusiast, Russell J. Myhre, wrote in Jazz News, an online publication, \"I was glad to see that the Fargo-Moorhead music scene is finally getting some of its due. Having seen these local bands play in their prime -- as well as many more not included in [the CD liner notes] -- there was a lot going on. There was a reason why [Bob] Dylan went to Fargo before he went to New York City.\"
Bobby Vee and the Shadows top a list of some of the Midwest\'s most popular rock bands of the 1950s through the early 1970s featured on Fargo Rocks, Volume 1. Seminal work from Terry Lee and the Poor Boys, Bill Velline, Ronnie Ray and the Playboys, The Treasures, The Mods, The Pawnbrokers and Overland Stage is also included.
This limited-edition compilation also features Midwest bands that made an impact on the early Fargo-Moorhead rock scene, such as Davey Bee and the Sonics, The Unbelievable Uglies, Richard Torrance and The Trade Winds 5, The Cornerstones and The Dynamic Dischords.
Many of the songs on Volume 1 are featured in \"Fargo Rocks,\" a 90-minute documentary on Fargo-Moorhead\'s rock and roll recording history that premiered on March 30, 2006, at the historic Fargo Theatre. Volume 2 is slated for a 2007 release date to be determined. Fargo Rocks, Volume 1 is available at www.fargorocksthemovie.com.
